Filed Under: Utility software, Windows on January 25, 2010
ADVERTISEMENTS
Every time an application is executed in Windows, a Prefetch(.pf) file is created that contains a list of files that are loaded at the application start up. The information in this file is used to optimize the loading time of the application whenever it is executed again.

As such there is no way to view the prefetch file until you use a third party application. One such application is WinPrefetchView. WinPrefetchView is a portable utility that shows all the information stored in a prefetch file.
This application works very well with all the version of Windows, starting from Windows XP to Windows 7.
