Windows 7 includes a great command line tool, that goes by the name of slmgr.vbs, that lets you manage all the licensing and activation issues of the system. This tool was introduced in Windows Vista. Here’s how you can use this tool to protect your product key.
The product key of a Windows installation is usually saved in the registry which can be accessed by a malicious code. slmgr.vbs can be used to to remove the product key from the registry.
1. To do that open command prompt and run it as an Administrator.
2. On the command prompt type slmgr.vbs /cpky and press Enter.
3. That’s it a Program key from registry cleared successfully message will be displayed indicating that everything went well.
