Be Safe, Open Chrome in Incognito Mode by Default

by Vineet Sharma on December 9, 2011 · 14 comments

The latest browser from Google, Chrome, has an incognito mode which allows you to surf the Internet without leaving any kind of traces behind. As soon as the tab is closed all the data like cookies, history, URL address is deleted. Incognito window is not activated by default, you have to open it using the ‘Option Menu’ or using the shortcut key ‘Ctrl+Shift+N’. But here is a simple trick that will make each window opened in Chrome, Incognito.

For this Right Click on the shortcut of Google Chrome & select ‘Properties’ and then in the ‘Target’ field add “-incognito” in the end, it is without the quotes. See the screenshot below.

incognito settings

Now start Google Chrome, you will see that all the tabs will open in incognito mode by default.

“Opening  in incognito mode by default” doesn’t work if you don’t use the shortcut above. What can you do, if you really want incognito mode to be the default browser?

Running incognito mode removes the ability to install or use extensions.

This worked!

I think what people is forgetting, is to put a space between the actual file, and where you put the -incognito in.

Thanks!

make sure you put the -incognito at the very end of the shortcut, after the quotes (“). e.g. [....chrome.exe" -incognito]

I was in need of that.
Really nice article..
Very very thanks dear.
